Love Poem

Ways to express unconditional love:
Disclaimer: this is not a to do list.
Warning: this is not a to do list.

1. Call them on Fridays.
2. Buy them donuts if their dog dies.
3. Respond “I love you” when they ask “How are you?”
4. Listen to them complain and agree with every word they say even if you really disagree.
5. When giving a goodbye hug, make it last four seconds longer than you think, hold hands and make eye contact when separating, and then as you’re walking away, blow them a kiss and smile. This will be the last time for a long time that they see you. And even if it’s not, make it count.
6. Remember their milkshake flavor preference and surprise them with one when they aren’t expecting it.
7. Make a mixtape for them. Make sure the last song pulls their heart strings.
8. Write a poem about them.
9. Write a poem about them and show them.
10. Imagine them leaving you and being so overwhelmed by sadness that you have to call them to remind yourself that they are real, alive, and in your life.

Ways to respond to these acts of love in direct correlation:

1. Text them on Mondays.
2. Share the donuts with them, duh.
3. Take their hand and give it a squeeze. Then get ice cream together. With sprinkles, always with sprinkles.
4. Write them a note thanking them for their time.
5. Think about that hug at night as you fall asleep and try to make yourself dream about the two of you renting an apartment and working your dream jobs together.
6. Let them pick the next movie when the time comes.
7. Marry them.
8. Feel the poem in the air even though you can’t see the words. Be happy that they exist in the universe and smile at the poet when they aren’t looking. When they catch you looking, make a silly face that will make both of you laugh.
9. Cherish every line, word, letter because it came straight from their heart.
10. Admit you do the same exact thing and hug. Be comforted by the fact that neither of you can live without the other.
