Elevation

The flight attendant tells us that

At exactly 10,000 feet elevation,

The view of Long Beach, CA

Is absolutely, impeccably breathtaking.

But technology has yet to evolve

Where taking a phone will do it any justice.

So when you took one anyway,

I rolled my eyes, but

I noticed your eyes fill with tears

As you tried so hard to hold them back and wipe them off

Before they traveled far enough to mean something.

Immediately I thought, "I'm going to write a poem about you,"

And hated myself.

Then you were interrupted

By the flight attendant asking, "Something to drink?"

And I put my headphones in to listen to "Rivers and Roads."

I wonder what level of elevation you are at right now,

And if you ever look at that photo you took.
